Business is About Relationship Building

Business is about relationshipsOne of the biggest and most crucial steps to building a successful business and having a success launch is relationship building.  Unfortunately, it is also often overlooked as being important. But let’s face it, if you don’t have a real relationship with your prospective clients and customers than you really don’t have a business since our clients are our source of income. And if your aren’t building stronger relationship, than you aren’t growing your bank account either.  Makes sense?

I often see lots of solo entrepreneurs how are holding on to their business by a string that is on the verge of breaking. They are working ’round the clock, day in and day out and always getting ready to launch the next big product or program.  They put in countless hours piecing together a strategy and working on the next big thing they are about to launch.  And many times, learning how to do it all themselves in the process. And do you know what else they are doing in the meantime? NOTHING!

Then, when they finally think they are ready to launch their next big “THING”, it fails miserably. And all this does is put a damper on their ego and their energy goes down.  So then they do nothing else after they launch but just try to figure out what will be the next thing they can launch and see if that sells.

Do you see what is missing here? Its the relationship building part.  Where is it?

Why Relationship Building Important

If you are not consistently nurturing your peeps on your list, networking, and making meaningful connections with like-minded people, than who will be buying from you when you launch your next big thing?

If you said no one, than you are right. I know this from experience. At the end of last year I did a little experiment with my own relationship building process and actually stopped all communications for about two months (though I occasionally sent a few random messages). I had little to no reactions or interactions from my peeps.

Then, in January, I restarted my campaign and here are the results I got:

  • My website visits and opt-ins increased with new ideal prospects
  • My Facebook and Twitter following increased (over a combined 1000 new followers)
  • My new Pinterest account got 122 within 1 week
  • and I got 4 new project clients

This is important because by creating new relationships and nurturing my existing ones I get to help more people doing what I love.

One thing that we need to remember is the to make an income we need to make and impact. And it all starts with relationship building.

Savvy Leverage Tip of The Week

Try the following tips to help you jump start your relationship building:

  1. Start blogging at least once a week. Start sharing one tip a week on a topic based on how you help people with your business.
  2. Create a social media campaign using Hootsuite or Roost. Add updates, quotes, do a survey or poll, start a contest, and comment on other peoples posts.
  3. Network. Network. Network. Join forums, associations or membership sites that already share your ideal clients. Interact with people and share your knowledge in a non-salesy way. Be authentic and sincere.
  4. Get then on the list. Create a squeeze page dedicated to getting people to sign up for your list.  Put this opt-in form or a sign up link on all your online real estate.

Be sure to leave your questions or  comments on my blog and I will answer them personally ;)

Thanks Michelle! It’s always good to re-evaluate the way we work from time to time to make sure that we are in the right track to reach our goals. For me it started with my office. I am really exited to see it come alive!
